Where have all the Laders gone?
Ever heard of Lawrence Lader?
I would bet not.
On May 10th, the pro-choice movement lost one of it's pioneer fighters for reprodutive rights.
In 1966, Lader wrote the groundbreaking book on legalizing abortion, and was a co-founder of NARAL Pro-Choice America (at the time called the National Association for the Repeal of Abortion Laws) and its founding chair.
Lader was a key leader in the fight to legalize abortion in the state of New York in 1971 and in the nation in 1973.
The Supreme Court in Roe v. Wade cited Lader’s 1966 book (Abortion) at least seven times.
In 1975, Lader founded the group he would lead for the rest of his life, Abortion Rights Mobilization (ARM).
In 1992, when the drive to bring mifepristone (RU 486) to the US was bogging down, Lader assisted Leona Benten in breaking the import ban on RU 486 and gaining attention for the issue.
He also wrote a book on RU 486 and funded clinical trials.
“Lader not only had a flair for publicity for the issue, but he was an innovative strategist,” said Eleanor Smeal, president of the Feminist Majority Foundation
Where are the Lawrence Laders??
The pro-choice movement needs new, passionate and fearless leaders who are willing to stand up, like Lader, Friedan, Steinem, Sanger.
I am standing.
Although I am merely 5'1, I can bet someone, somewhere can see me.
If they can't...I will stand on someone so they will.
Both men AND women need to understand this is larger than abortion.
It is about pious religious institutions infiltrating the political arena.
It is about government intrusion.
It is about political leaders confusing themselves as religious leaders.
It is about religious leaders confusing themselves as political leaders.
It is about whether we are willing to allow our bodies and minds to be programmed by the Church of the poison mind.
It is about personal liberties.
When the Reich and Big Government take one, they will stop at nothing to own another.
It is about so much more than whether a woman chooses to have an abortion.
