Floridians Beware of "Chain-Gang" Charlie
Florida Republican gubernatorial candidate and state Attorney General Charlie Crist on Sunday in an interview on Bay News 9's Political Connections said he wants to "change hearts," instead of abortion-related laws, to help prevent the procedure, the St. Petersburg Times reports.
According to the Times, Crist, who previously described himself as "pro-choice," last year said he was "pro-life" but later said that he does not support overturning Roe.
In March, when Crist was asked by a Roman Catholic priest whether he would sign legislation similar to South Dakota's law (HB 1215) banning abortion in the state except to save a pregnant women's life, he said, "Yes, I would."
However, he later said that he felt the South Dakota law is too restrictive and should allow an exception for rape and incest survivors.
In the Political Connections interview, said that he would sign a ban such as South Dakota's, adding, "But I don't think that's where we have to go."
He also said, "I think what we need to do is, as the president has said, 'Encourage a culture of life.' That's what I would try to do with adoption incentives and other things."
He also suggested that an exception for a woman's health would be "reasonable" to include in a law similar to South Dakota's.
Make up your mind, state Attorney General bag-o-douche Charlie.
Yikes, flip-flopping must only be unacceptable for Democrats.
