The Year Was 1971

On July 10, 1971, Gloria Steinem, founder of Ms. Magazine, addressed the first national meeting of the new organization, the National Women's Political Caucus (NWPC), created to elect more women to public office--as elected and appointed officials, as judges in state and federal courts, as delegates to national party conventions, as lobbyists, campaigners, and voters, as well as to work politically to promote the agenda of the women's movement.
