When Dems Bend Over, Women Lose

In passing the Child Custody Protection Act, the Senate meant to do good, but does harm instead. It compromised not only personal choice, but also personal safety. The bill makes it a federal crime to help an under-age girl cross state lines to avoid parental notification laws for an abortion. The bill's blanket requirement of parental consent wrongly assumes that all parents are worthy advisors. They are not. When the House and Senate negotiate a final version of the bill, they should rethink this approach to helping conflicted young women.

The Miami Herald reported that Senator Bill Nelson (D. FL) gave in to this Republican wedge issue and took it in the ass by voting to endanger minors and criminalize close family members and friends who would take them from a state with a mandatory parental involvement law like Florida to a state without such a requirement.
Send him your approbations at http://www.senate.gov/.
(Note that Joe Lieberman voted no, making a total of 34 pro-choice senators)

This is quite interesting. Note that Joe Crybaby Lieberman voted no. While Mr. bag-o-douche Lieberman claims to be a pro-choice Democrat, his voting records and statements are clearly inconsistent with this claim. Let's not forget that this is the same man who said he believed that hospitals had the right to deny rape victims access to, or even information about, emergency contraception...that victims could just go to another hospital. Tell that to a rape victim at 3 am in rural Wyoming, where the next hospital is miles upon miles away. And by the way, most rape victims don't just luckily have an extra 50 bucks on them for cab fare.
Bend over, woman hater.
