Police arrest second pregnant teen
AMERICAN FORK, Utah - Police arrested the second of three teens accused of fleeing a maternity home after hitting the caretaker with a frying pan.
The privately owned maternity home, 30 miles south of Salt Lake City, is a place for struggling teens to learn about prenatal care, adoption and parenting skills. They are sent by their families to get them away from drugs or bad relationships.
First, girls can lean about prenatal care, adoption and parenting skills at their local Health Dept or other local charities. Code for anti-choice funded homes. Transparent to say the least.
Ok, let's analyze this. A private maternity home. Ok, so no poor girls in attendence. Girls from affluent homes are sent by their families. However, I would bet that they would have a different opinion on why they were sent.
How about the shame you bring to your perfect, rich family? How about your parents having to explain to their friend the state representative that their daughter is knocked up and not married. I mean, just imagine what Mrs. Chad Douglas Fairchild would say.
How about parents not allowing their daughter to have an abortion, so they just ship her off, out of the public eye, to a home that will force her to endure a pregnancy she doesn't want and force her to agree to adoption.
These so-called maternity homes are a symptom of society's refusal to progress past unmarried, pregnant girls and women being viewed as dirty, sub-class, immroal whores. Ship 'em off to the middle of nowehere so we don't have to explain the "mistake" to friends and family, out of sight and mind so we don't have to feel the guilt of abandoning our daughters in their time of need.
If it was a place that simply taught lessons about prenantal care and parenting skills, why did these girls feel so depserate to get away?
