News on the Abstinence-only war

In a move to address the ridiculously inaccurate language in abstinence-only programs, two House Democrats have introduced a bill to prevent the federal government from funding groups whose "materials on human sexuality contain medically inaccurate information."

It's called the Guarantee of Medical Accuracy in Sex Education Act, introduced by Reps. Luis Gutierrez (D-IL) and Jim Moran (D-VA). Mind you--the Waxman report, which found that over 80% of abstinence-only curricula contain false, misleading, or distorted information about reproductive health, has already proven this crap to be...well, crap.

Count on Focus on the Family to provide humor, by calling it a bill "to cut funding for purity."

Yawn.

More news specific to abstinence-only curricula: The House Appropriations Committee recently said no to a requested funding increase for abstinence-only education.

Kansas has just decided to teach sex ed with an "emphasis on abstinence," rather than "abstinence-only-until-marriage". I bet that put a boil on the butt of its supporters.
